GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS (22 June 2017). As a premier entertainment showplace for acclaimed international stars, iconic American artists, and celebrated regional performers, The Grand 1894 Opera House continues to produce an annual performing arts season that delivers entertainment experiences that capture the imagination of its audiences. The Grand’s 2017-18 Performing Arts Season will include many such memorable events.
The magic of live performance, where amazing artists share their creative joy while feeding off the energy of a captivated audience, is like nothing else. Cell phones, Facebook pages, and such are put aside as audience members in rapt attention experience “living in the moment” as an entertainment experience unfolds before them.
Two of Broadway’s most celebrated legends, Chita Rivera and Tommy Tune, will open the season with their captivating show, Chita & Tune-Two for the Road! Jimmy Webb, composer of the iconic “Galveston,” will share memories and stories of his musical collaborations with Glen Campbell. Clarinetist Julian Bliss and his septet will pay tribute to Benny Goodman and American Swing; and Joshua Bell, one of today’s most celebrated violinists, will dazzle audiences with his extraordinary talent. Musical pop greats The Beach Boys, The Manhattan Transfer, Take 6, and Blood Sweat & Tears will share their amazing hits, and The Texas Tenors will return to The Grand, after their successful PBS taping at the opera house last season. Don’t miss STOMP, Yamato-the Drummers of Japan, Parsons Dance, and Tango Fire, all promising to be exciting, energetic, and scintillating performances.
