Seniors, disabled persons and veterans have until June 1 to make the third installment payment on home property taxes. Those participating in the split or half payment plan will have until June 30th to make the final payment.
Save a stamp and go online to www.galcotax.com to pay by electronic check ($1 fee) or credit card (2.5% fee). Please note that these are bank and credit card fees. Avoid the expense of a stamp or the fees and pay in person Monday-Friday from 8 am to 5 pm at any full time location or drop payment in the yellow drop boxes outside of each office. A black drop box is located at the Friendswood City Hall satellite location. All payments placed in drop boxes are picked up each morning and considered received the previous business day.
Lines have been long in all locations due in large part to confusion associated with the TxDMV single sticker program that combines the registration and inspection stickers. According to tax assessor collector Cheryl Johnson, “Simple rule to follow – if the inspection is not expired, you are good to go to renew the registration. Inspection will not be required again until the next time you renew the registration.” This change occurred due to legislation from the 83rd Session but implementation was delayed to enable the State’s registration system to be updated. Additionally, the State portion of the inspection fee is now collected by the county tax office – there has been no increase in registration fee amounts this year.
Full time Tax office branches are located in Galveston, League City, Santa Fe and Texas City. The Friendswood satellite office is open Thursday and Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and the Crystal Beach satellite is open the third Tuesday of each month from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Both satellite offices close from Noon to 1 pm for lunch.
